About
Please join us for another local spay & neuter clinic hosted by our amazing friends at Ruff Haven Crisis Sheltering!
Schedule:
7:30 AM - Volunteers arrive and brief orientation
8:00 AM - Patient drop off and intake
9:00 AM - Surgeries start
12:00 PM (ish) - Lunch
The clinic is done when all patients are discharged and the space is cleaned up. Typically around 5 PM depending on how the day goes!
Please Note: This registration form is for volunteers only. Do not use this form if you are potential client. You can register your pet at www.vetscursions.org/clinics.
Before volunteering, please review a few important reminders:
Vetscursions is entirely volunteer-run and volunteers are unpaid. All veterinary care provided by Vetscursions is free or low-cost. Any proceeds from paid veterinary services always goes toward other veterinary programs with the goal of removing barriers to veterinary care for communities in-need.
You will not be able to have your personal pets evaluated or cared for while volunteering but we are more than happy to see your pet at another clinic.
Prior experience is not needed to volunteer with us but please be sure register for the appropriate "ticket type". We are more than happy to teach you if you're new to high-volume veterinary medicine!
Lunch and drinks are generally provided at all Vetscursions clinics but we recommend brining any necessary food or drinks if you have dietary restrictions or food allergies. We always try to have vegan and vegetarian options.
The Roles
Surgical Veterinarians
This is what it sounds like. If you dream of nothing other than removing reproductive organs all day, this is the role for you. Previous experience with high-volume spay & neuter is preferred but you don't need to claim to be the fastest spay in the west. If you're a spay & neuter novice, please select "Medical Veterinarian" - we're still happy to teach you!
Medical Veterinarians We have a large need for caring for pets during intake, induction, and recovery. We're very happy for you to scrub in on some surgeries and help out as the caseload allows.
Veterinary Technicians and Nurses
Experienced veterinary nurses will be running the prep, surgery, and recovery areas. You will be injecting anesthetics, administering medications, prepping patients for surgery, and providing any other general medical care as needed under the guidance of the veterinary team. You may be asked to help guide volunteers that don't have significant veterinary experience.
Patient Coordinators
These volunteers keep the wheels on this crazy bus ride we're all on. These volunteers coordinate all patient flow through from registration to discharge. Prior experience is required for this role. Your registration will be revoked if you sign up for this role without prior approval.
Runners
These volunteers are an extra set of hands when it comes to helping with pets, prepping supplies, cleaning instruments, and enjoying the party. If you don't have previous high-volume experience, this is a great place to start.
